2021 Workshops at KCCG
April Virtual Workshop
Thursday, April 15th
We are excited to announce our next workshop KC Clay Guild Artist in Resident, Jing Huang! Our workshops have been a looking little different at the KC Clay Guild as a result of Covid 19 and an effort to social distance in our space. We are currently using Instagram Live as a platform to view our workshops. In order to view our workshops in real time you can visit our Instagram page @KCClayGuild at 7pm. Feel free to comment and ask questions throughout the workshop!
In this workshop I’ll talk about how I observe and translate the world around me to create my abstracted ceramic sculptures. I will be showing my handbuilding techniques and process as well as explaining how I glaze and fire my work.
Jing Huang was born and raised in P.R China. Jing received a BA from Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in 2012 and her Advanced Diploma from Sheridan College in 2015. In 2020, she graduated from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University with an MFA in ceramic art. She is currently an artist in residence at KC Clay Guild in Kansas City, MO.
Jing’s explorations are guided by the experiences and feeling of being caught in the spaces among different cultures, landscape, daily surroundings, and languages. As she moves around, her work continues to change and is ongoing. Jing is a chronic shifter and seeker – drawn to environments, ‘landscapes’ and new ‘contexts’ for herself to be and the work to become.
