1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I was first introduced to ceramics in high school and was reintroduced when I started coming to the guild in January of 2023. The guild has steadily become my home away from, almost to the point of a subtle pottery addiction. I have developed a passion for pottery and ceramics as I have explored clay at the guild, from oxide washes, 3d printing custom pottery tools, agonizing over handle shapes, making glazes, and many other rabbit holes. I've also had the opportunity to participate in several Guild sales and look forward to continuing that. The environment and community at the guild has always been open and welcoming, and I am always looking for ways to give back.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
I started by volunteering during the guild's raku night, then joined the volunteer committee, now I'm a volunteer monitor on family fun nights. I've also used my tech skills to assist in broadcasting Guild workshops. I am always happy to help out and give back to a place that I have received so much from. I have also been working on expanding pottery sales opportunities for myself and others at the Guild. This summer marks the second year for a ceramics selling group I organized with other guild members. We set up a table at First Fridays in the Crossroads, where we sell our wares and advertise the Guild. As a board member, I'd like to use that opportunity to expand guild outreach at First Fridays. Professionally, I have management, organizational, tech, and data analytics experience, that I would be happy to explore ways to apply to efforts at the guild.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I have recently discovered a love for pottery—not just as an art form, but for the sense of sustainability and childlike joy it brings. There’s something grounding about working with clay, and I’m eager to contribute that energy toward building and growing both the community and the craft. I’d love to volunteer, support events, and help foster a space where creativity and connection can thrive.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
As an Indian-born, U.S.-based Creative Director with nearly two decades in design and advertising, I bring a strong understanding of visual storytelling, branding, and strategic communication—skills I’d love to contribute to the KC Clay Guild. I’ve led creative projects across industries like healthcare, lifestyle, and telecom, always with a focus on building meaningful connections between people and ideas. I see great opportunity in using design to elevate the presence of KC Clay Guild, support member engagement, and grow community awareness.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about equity and representation in creative spaces. I believe in creating inclusive environments where all voices—especially those from underrepresented backgrounds—can be seen and heard. I’d be excited to help foster that kind of culture within the KC Clay Guild community while supporting its mission and members through thoughtful, impactful contributions.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the KC Clay Guild Board as the Volunteer Chair, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to be part of a team so dedicated to fostering community through clay. I’m interested in continuing to serve because I believe deeply in the Guild’s mission and want to keep contributing to its growth and sustainability. As both an instructor and a board member, I’ve seen firsthand the impact the Guild has on artists and students of all levels, and I’d love to continue helping shape that impact from a leadership perspective.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
My experience as a ceramics instructor at the Guild—especially teaching children and beginner wheel classes—has given me a strong sense of what our community needs and values. I’ve developed solid relationships with students, volunteers, and fellow artists, and I’m passionate about making clay accessible and welcoming to everyone. As Volunteer Chair, I’ve gained valuable experience coordinating and motivating volunteers, organizing events, and collaborating with other board members to support the Guild’s programs. I bring strong communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a real commitment to the Guild’s mission, and I’d be excited to continue putting those to work on the board.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
The reason why I am interested in being on the board is because I would like to be further involved in the functionality of the clay guild and help promote it. I have always enjoyed the sense of community I feel around other potters and would like to share that with others.
2) Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member. My skill set is mainly based in videography, photography and advertising. I graduated from the Kansas City Art institute with a degree in photography. K.C.A.I is also where I first started in ceramics. I have worked in advertising before, and I am currently a videographer. I feel I could use these skills to promote the clay guild and showcase what great things are happening there.
Thank you for your time and consideration
1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I get lots of joy out of my time at the Guild. I love the community, the mission and would love to give back to the organization in some capacity. I know there's a lot that goes into making things run smoothly so if there's a way I could help that fits my skill set, I'd be very excited about it.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
I'm a professional photographer and videographer with an art degree. I'm willing to see what's possible on my end to use my content creation skills to help tell the story of the guild. I could imagine capturing occasional photos of pieces, the artistic process for workshops/classes or taking well lit portraits of the artists in residence.
I have served on the Missouri chapter of a non-profit public land advocacy and conservation non-profit board in the past (https://www.backcountryhunters.org/), which was incredibly fulfilling. Where I felt like I was the most effective in that organization was when my specific camera and editing skills were used for projects vs organizational tasks. I only left the last board when my father passed a few years ago, as I needed more time to process that.
With the new space being built up I could also assist in helping set up a corner that's appropriate for shooting work at the guild. Something that's simple that any member could use to quickly document some of their work with even an iphone.
In the end, I'm willing to discuss this all more if you have any questions.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
As the current Director of the Centered Earth Gallery, I’ve worked to make the space more inviting and dynamic for our visitors. We've expanded from showcasing about 10 artists to now featuring nearly 20, and my goal has always been to celebrate our members while maintaining an inclusive atmosphere. I want the Guild to be a place of growth and learning, and I believe displaying artwork is a key part of that process. It's a valuable experience for artists to learn how to exhibit and price their work. One of my contributions to the gallery has been creating a dedicated wall for our annual Tea Bowl National show.
This year, we kicked things off with a solo show featuring one of our Artists in Residence, Huey Lee. I have plans to host a few more solo shows in 2024 and am encouraging our current members to consider showcasing their pieces in the gallery. My vision is to transform the gallery into a must-visit destination—where people come not only to appreciate contemporary ceramics but also to purchase and collect.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
I studied at the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, California, and later at La Verne University, ultimately earning an M.F.A. in ceramics from Claremont Graduate University. During this time, I taught both children and adults wheel throwing and hand-building techniques for the City of Claremont, in addition to serving as a teaching assistant.
Upon returning to the clay arts, I immersed myself in exploring various styles and techniques such as soda and raku firing, as well as experimenting with textures in clay. In recent years, my passion has shifted toward creating Bonsai pots. I’ve learned the art of throwing and carving these unique pieces, delving into their history, and even cultivating a small Bonsai forest in my backyard. (Note to self: Be careful what you wish for!)

1) Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I would be honored to continue serving on the KC Clay Guild Board because it’s been rewarding to witness and contribute to the Guild’s growth since I first joined the board in 2019. Over the years, I’ve watched our community flourish—membership grow, events sell out, sales break records, and other exciting new milestones like securing funding for a new space and updated equipment.
With our expansion, I believe we’re just beginning to tap into what’s possible for us. The new space opens the door for even greater accessibility, inclusivity, and impact—both within the Guild and in the broader Kansas City arts community. I’m excited about the opportunity to help shape this next chapter and ensure that KCCG makes art accessible to all that we can.
2) Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
I came to KC Clay Guild as a resident artist in the fall of 2017 after earning my BFA from the University of Missouri. At the end of my residency, I joined the Board of Directors and have since served as both Workshops Chair and currently as Publicity Chair. Within my board position I have taken part in events committees such as Raku Night, Teabowl National, Holiday Sale, and Spring Sale.
Through these roles, I’ve enjoyed staying connected to our community- whether that’s attending our events, engaging with members, or helping manage our presence on social media. I also love building and maintaining relationships with artists and organizations across the greater Kansas City arts scene
I’ve been the Saturday Kids’ Class instructor since 2018, lead our community soda firings, and most recently participated in our On The Move outreach program. With a background in both art and service, I’ve developed a passion for community arts and a strong belief that art is for everyone and everyone should have access to it.
If re-elected, I hope to continue supporting and growing KC Clay Guild’s mission—helping us build a creative and inclusive space for all.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
My journey with the KC Clay Guild began in late 2018 when I took my very first beginners pottery class. From that moment, I was fascinated by the transformative and calming powers of clay and by the welcoming, supportive community fostered by the Guild.
This initial spark has only grown into a deep appreciation for the Guild and its role in the Kansas City arts landscape. In 2023, I was thrilled to deepen my involvement by becoming a volunteer monitor. This experience has provided me with valuable insight into the daily operations of the Guild, and I've had the wonderful opportunity to witness firsthand the growth of our community. I've seen individuals come in for the very first time during events like Family Fun Night and then, whether gradually or with great enthusiasm, become regular, engaged members after that initial positive experience. This direct observation of the Guild's impact on individuals and the community has further solidified my commitment to its success.
I am genuinely passionate about the KC Clay Guild's mission and vision – to cultivate a thriving ceramic arts community through education, collaboration, and opportunity. I am eager to contribute my time and energy to help the Guild continue to thrive and to ensure that the joy and artistry of working with clay remain accessible to all.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests, and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
My professional background includes extensive experience in marketing, with a particular focus on email marketing strategies. I have a proven track record of developing and implementing successful email campaigns that drive engagement, build community, and distribute information effectively.
Beyond my professional work, I have been a marketing volunteer for Empowering Minds International for the past 10 years. In this role, I have owned and contributed to various aspects of marketing, including managing email communications, building and contributing to website development and maintenance, and providing event support. This volunteer experience has further developed my ability to strategically plan and execute marketing initiatives within a non-profit context, much like the Clay Guild.
I believe my marketing skills and experience would be applicable and beneficial to the KC Clay Guild. As a board member, I envision leveraging my email marketing expertise to enhance communication with Guild members, promote workshops and events, attract new subscribers and members, and keep the broader community informed about the Guild's activities and achievements. My passion for the Guild, combined with my marketing experience, would allow me to contribute meaningfully to the board's efforts in strengthening the Guild's presence, fostering greater participation, and ultimately supporting the continued growth of the Kansas City clay community.

1) Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I have received so much from KCCG and I'd love to continue giving back as a board member and volunteer monitor. I moved home to Kansas City in 2022 after about a decade away. Since returning to KC, KCCG has become a home away from home for me. Aside from the incredible facility that allows for so much learning and creativity, the warm and inclusive community of artists at The Guild have become an important part of my life. I am especially impressed by KCCG's commitment to community involvement and bringing art to otherwise underserved people and places.
Having lived all over the country, and used pottery studios in several of the places I've lived, I've found that KCCG is a truly special and unusual place. We are very lucky to have such a thriving and successful community-run arts space. Having served on the board for the past year, I'd love to continue the work we've been doing keeping things running while planning our transition to our newer, larger space.
2) Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
I've served the guild as the workshops chair on the board of directors for the past year, and as a volunteer monitor for the past two years. I've also served on the volunteer committee, sale committees, and fundraising committee. In these positions I've been fortunate to get to know many members of our community and of our current board, and to hear and understand their various perspectives on Guild events and operations. On the board, I've brought Guild community perspectives into decision making. As workshops chair, I've tapped into our Guild community to give our members opportunities to teach and learn from each other. I've also started the process of utilizing online tools to bring our workshops to a wider community. I also led the organization of our first clay olympics in 2024, and hope to repeat that event for 2025.
As for my clay experience, I started playing with clay in high school, and was admitted to several ceramics programs for my BFA. But as my husband says, I got mixed up with the wrong crowd and chose a different path. I received a B.S. from KU in Strategic Communication with a minor in Germanic Language and Literature, and a J.D. from DePaul University. Aside from a few trips here and there to local studios in the various places I lived between high school and now, I had about a 23 year break from pottery. I returned to ceramics in 2021 at a small studio in upstate NY. The studio allowed limited opportunities to work and learn pottery, and I feel incredibly fortunate that now I have access to KCCG. I am very vocal about how fortunate Kansas City is to have a space like ours, and on the board will continue to do all I can to help this organization thrive.
As a board member for KCCG, I have really enjoyed working with my fellow board members, volunteers, and the KCCG community. I feel I have used my position to both assist the board in carrying out the functions of the guild, and to create a channel for members voices to be heard by the board. Prior to serving on the board at KCCG, I served as Kitchen Director, Vice President, and President of the Binghamton German Club in Binghamton, NY. In these positions I honed skills in many areas of nonprofit management, including membership retention and expansion, spearheading diversity and inclusivity initiatives, community outreach, event planning and marketing, volunteer recruitment and management, and facility management of our 8 acre property, event space, and beer garden. I'd love to continue to use my skills to serve KCCG in whatever capacity our membership and board thinks I'd be most useful.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I've been taking classes through the Clay Guild off and on since 2016 and have absolutely loved learning new skills that combine my love of arts and physics. All of the community that I have met is so welcoming and helpful and I enjoy contributing to that space. I am passionate about the arts being accessible and think it is amazing how the Clay guild has been successful in providing that to everyone. I want to give back to a community that has already given me so much.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
Over the past year, I’ve been able to put my educational/professional experience to use as the Treasurer/member of the Construction Committee and would love to continue building on that. My focus in the next term would be to support the continued fundraising, manage financials, and help with construction efforts on the new Building.
My educational experience is a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and Masters in Business Management. I have experience working as a Project/Construction Manager for a large Engineer/Procure/Construction Company and have also run a small business part time in Property Management and construction renovations. I've used many of the same skills in both roles - vetting, hiring, and managing contractors, designing spaces for a variety of audiences, managing project financials and cashflow, project schedules, and designing/managing a website and social media posts. I have been responsible for managing multiple groups, with conflicting interests, to achieve a successful outcome. I am hopeful that that experience would be an asset to help the Clay Guild expand and grow their space.
My strength is being able to focus on the small details while still seeing the larger picture. I tend to be very organized and detail oriented. I believe in listening before speaking - trying to understand the needs and goals of others, so that we can work together towards a common goals. I would be happy to help the Clay Guild community any way that I can.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I signed up for my first class at KCCG last year because my wife is the Hobby Police and was pushing me to take up a hobby. Admittedly, I have an incessant need for everything in my life to serve a purpose….this doesn’t make me great at hobbies! I’d taken two semesters of ceramics in college and really enjoyed it. I figured if I could do anything just for enjoyment, ceramics (specifically wheel throwing) would be it. The studio has become a peaceful refuge for me. I find that it is the only place I am able to be fully present and focused. The work I do is emotionally and mentally demanding, and I’m constantly being pulled in 1,000 directions. It is a breath of fresh air to be in the studio, not paying attention to my phone and Apple Watch, simply focusing on the one task at hand….something I’m doing just because it’s enjoyable. Honestly, it’s been cathartic for me over the past year. On a very basic level, I also have a deep understanding of how nonprofits function and understand the crucial role of the BoD. I’d like to do my part to allow KCCG to continue to be accessible to many.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
My professional and educational experience positions me as a useful addition to the Board. With a degree in Nonprofit Management and over 10 years of experience working in nonprofits and previous experience serving on a Board of Directors, I bring a wealth of practical knowledge and a unique skill set and perspective. Additionally, I am a highly organized and detail-oriented project manager with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
I am dedicated to participating in efforts which provide a broad range of experiences to underserved communities, ensuring they have access to opportunities that enrich their lives. As a person who has spent a good portion of her life without adequate resources, it is important to me to now use the skills and talents I have to better position others.
My great loves in life (outside of my wife, of course) are St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Louisiana State University, live music, Mardi Gras, fostering kittens, and traveling.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I have converging interests that lead me to interest in the KC Clay Guild Board. I am a new member, and very much a novice as a hobbyist in ceramics and pottery. I began my journey with a casual interest in wheel classes. Learning in community classes at multiple studios in Kansas City, I have grown, had fun, experienced frustration of clay, embraced the challenges of learning and have experienced the kindness and community (and patience) of ceramics artist teachers. I am also an active community member with area not-for profits and have continued interests in improving my community and keeping the community interested in the exciting gifts that make our community home, specifically in health/wellness, the arts, and free and independent press. As a consumer/customer of all of these things, I feel most like a contributor to my community when I can be actively involved in supporting organizations with my skills. Though volunteering and engaging, I am fulfilling a personal pull to activism by serving, doing and improving as I can help with business infrastructure of these community services and programs.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
Non-Profit/Not-For-Profit - I have 18+ years of experience working in the Kansas City non-profit sector. In my career, I worked as a program manager with a health care and social service organization. In my master's program, I supported non-profit boards through coordination of team structure, governance design and project management on small group projects as well as process improvement. I volunteer in the community through native gardening, health care, community outreach and support, fundraising, event planning, general committees all in the industries of the arts, libraries, local/national public radio and am always seeking to contribute and learn more.
Business - My work history includes program management, supervision, healthcare, healthcare IT, consulting, human resources and organizational change management consulting. I currently work full time with an engineering organization within the Human Resources function in the Organization Effectiveness group. At first impression - working with an engineering firm seems miles away from my previous work as a social worker. In fact, it is very similar as it is rooted in behavior change in response to complicated environments around us. What I enjoy most is being an advocate for stakeholders to ensure they have what they need to buy-into and successfully make changes that make organizations strong and successful. I work on enterprise-wide projects, consulting and coaching with executives and project teams on how to strategize and prioritize people in the process of major organizational, social, process or technology changes. I am a facilitator and frequently present to multiple levels of professionals and community members to convey complicated ideas with relatable sentiment. My specialty is organizational design, cohesive teams (departments and projects), group dynamics and organizational change management. I specialize in people experience and engagement through change management, learning and communications strategies.
My expertise is not ceramics, though it is a hobby interest that excites me! My expertise is in business and the people side of change. I'd love to support those who should be in the spotlight - staff, volunteers, students, practicing artists and the community that appreciates, engages in and buys their work. The convergence of my skills and experience in non-profits and business can help support the board with business decisions and driving initiatives to support these experts.

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I began coming to the KC Clay Guild in 2016 and was hooked immediately. I started out volunteering as a monitor, and then started serving on the board in 2018. The Clay Guild has become a very important community for me and I love being a part of it. It really feels like a second home.
I am so excited that the Clay Guild has found a new, larger building at 39th and Broadway. I have been a part of the KC Clay Guild’s board and strategic planning committee as we’ve dreamed of a larger space, started our first capital campaign, and searched for buildings. I have been so happy and excited for the Clay Guild and the opportunity to expand, and I have found a lot of purpose in being a part of this growth.
I feel very strongly about the Guild’s mission as a non profit ceramic studio in making ceramics accessible and affordable to the Kansas City community. I am looking forward to the new building’s ability to help us expand our mission, allowing more classes, more storage space, and most importantly more discounted and free programming that we can make possible to our community. I love that the Clay Guild provides free kids classes to local Kansas City schools through our On the Move program, and I look forward to finding more opportunities for the Clay Guild to make positive impacts in the Kansas City community.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
My educational background is in the arts, and I have been working with clay since I first started at the Clay Guild in 2016. Over the last 15 years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach, work in a high production ceramic studio, and grow my ceramic knowledge. Now I have a 9-5 job working in non profit marketing, and am able to make art in my spare time, which I am so appreciative of. My experience in non profit marketing has helped me better understand marketing strategies that the KC Clay Guild can use, and I’ve tried to put my knowledge to use by serving on the strategic planning, fundraising committee and putting together the Clay Guild’s eNewsletter. I also usually help on the Spring and Holiday Sale committees, and have helped us transition to using the South Broadland church for an alternative sale location, so we can allow a much larger amount of participants. I am really looking forward to the being able to hold the sales at the new building!
I would really like the opportunity to continue serving on the board and be a part of the KC Clay Guild’s transition to the new building. It’s an exciting time at the KC Clay Guild and I hope to continue to help with its growth.

1) Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I am very passionate about ceramic art and KCCG. I believe in making art available to the greater KC Metro area, and I believe that KCCG provides an excellent venue to do just that. The Guild has provided an excellent opportunity for area artists and I want to do my part to see it continue to thrive, improve, and grow.
Over the past year KCCG has been raising funds for a new building and expansion through our first capital campaign. I have been fortunate enough to be on the Executive Board, which has helped lead this effort. We have raised over 90% of our first two phases of fundraising goals.
To make this happen we have formed an Advisory Board, a Construction Committee, and have held many different fundraising events. Donations have come from membership, individuals, family funds, corporate donors, and grants.
We are under contract for a 18,500 square foot building that will allow us to see our dreams of ceramic art access to even more people become a reality. I can't wait to see our next round of fundraising goals fulfilled, and the dream of KCCG building and programming expansion realized!
2) Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put it to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
I have been on the Board, as Vice-President for four years, and have been President for the past 7. 11 years on the Board has flown by! I have been working with clay since 1998.
I am a Fleet Manager for a local municipality and in this roll manage employees, develop budgets, seek grants, and speak to professional groups and City Councils. I also have served on a Professional Board for Heartland Emergency Apparatus Technicians as President, Vice President and Director for several years. I believe all of these skills directly translate into helping the Guild continue to succeed.
Over the past year Louis Reilly was named the Director of Development and Programming by the Board, and Alex Watson was hired as the Studio Manager. This change has allowed Louis to focus on programming expansion and efficiencies, along with his continued effort of fundraising and building acquisition logistics. Alex has enhanced the organization around the studio for both Members and Residents.
My history with the Guild, and current involvement in the capitol campaign and building acquisition puts me in a place to help see this large project carried through with continuity.
I am dedicated to the success of the KC Clay Guild, and would be honored to be selected to serve on the Board again this year!

1. Why are you interested in serving on the KC Clay Guild Board?
I haven’t tapped into my creative side in years; and discovering clay has filled a void I didn’t fully realize was missing. Working with clay—especially as I start exploring sculpture—has been incredibly energizing.
Art has an incredible ability to ground and center you, especially when life feels chaotic. Clay has become that space for me—a place where I can slow down, be fully present, and reconnect with a part of myself I’d lost touch with. I know firsthand how healing and transformative art can be. That’s why I’m excited about the opportunity to give back and help ensure KC Clay Guild continues to share the power of art with an even broader community.
2. Describe your skills, experience, and interests and how you might put them to use as a KC Clay Guild Board Member.
I currently serve on the KC Clay Guild’s Advisory Board. I bring over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector mostly in fundraising/marketing and, more recently, serving as Executive Director for an organization providing transitional housing and financial education to the underserved community in the northland. Today I run a fundraising consulting company, Dandelion Consulting. I help organizations build stronger donor relationships, increase revenue, and create sustainable growth.
As the KC Clay Guild transitions into its new location and continues to expand, I hope to support programming efforts around fundraising, donor engagement, and financial sustainability. Whether that means helping develop fundraising strategies, strengthening grant opportunities, or guiding donor stewardship, I’m eager to use my skills to support the Guild in its next chapter and ensure that the arts remain relevant and accessible for all members of the community.
