KC Clay Guild hosts two Artists in Residence each year. The Artists in Residence are provided with studios, materials, and a small stipend. In exchange, the Artists in Residence provide new prospectives to the KCCG community in addition to serving 12 hours per week in the studio.
Thanks for you submissions to the 2017-18 AIR program. We will begin reviewing the applications immediately!
Current Artists in Residence:
Joey Watson began his residency at KCCG in October 2015. Joey recently graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute. Joey's work pushes vessel making traditions into new realms with his use of slip casting, colored clays, and audible interactive features.
Joey occupies a studio space at KCCG and teaches the Tuesday evening handbuilding class. Don't hesitate to ask Joey for help or inquire about his work and creative process!
Kait Arndt will begin her residency at KCCG in July 2016. Kait recently completed a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics at University of Missouri-Columbia.
From Kait's artist statement: These forms are representations. They embody my questions. How is it possible to exist in structured social systems and institutions –represented by the grid- while at the same time maintaining freedom and variety as individuals? How do we keep from falling apart under the weight of it? How do we remain?
Be sure to reach out to Kait regarding her studio studio practice or with general technical questions!
